Sony's ANC, while better at high frequency filtering, also suffers more from it affecting the sound of whatever is playing. Similarly, I have another fan which is larger and has a lower frequency hum, which disappeared entirely with the QC35 but not the XM3. I have a fan that whines at certain speeds which almost disappears with the XM3 but is noticeable with Bose. One major advantage for Sony is that wearing glasses breaks the seal with the QC35 which reduces ANC effectiveness quite a bit, but not with the XM3.īose's ANC does better at filtering low-frequencies, while Sony's ANC does better at filtering out higher frequency sounds. Any suggestion would be really appreciated here.ĮDIT : I forgot to mention my budget : around 100-120€/$ tops.Ĭlick to shrink. From comparing the QC35-II to the XM3 directly (I had both) I'd say that they are roughly on-par, with each having areas where they perform better/worse than the other.īose's ANC is arguably better in almost every way if you get a good seal with the headphones, but their earpads are less pliable which makes it more difficult to do so - though this gets better after a few weeks. I tried the Cowin SE7 and I was really sad to have to return them : design, comfort, ergonomy were pretty much perfect for me but the sound was just bad. Would you say the QC35II fit that purpose well enough ? I haven't been able to try them yet.Ĭomfort is also top priority as I'm prone to chronic migraines often.

I was pretty much set on a pair of Sony MDR-7506 that I'd mod with a detachable cable, but I'm trying to figure out an ideal situation with high quality wireless headphones to also be able to use them with my phone and such.

Also to not depend on my motherboard soundcard chipset which is just garbage (Realtek drivers are the absolute worst and always such a mess, interference, etc.) anymore. I'm so over the shitty mic quality and mediocre sound of gaming headsets, I'm no professional musician or streamer but I love music too much and sometimes stream for a french gaming website so I do want some more than decent setup.

I'm on the market for new headphones I'm basically changing my PC audio setup from an old Steelseries Siberia 1st gen to a USB mic (already got that and it's an awesome value) combo with audiophile headphones and usb AMP / DAC (almost dead set on the Fiio K3). They're also quite a bit larger than the QC35, which I did not like. I'd recommend getting in touch with Bose support before doing anything rash, and asking about downgrading the firmware if you're not happy with the changes.įor what it's worth, I compared the WH-1000XM3 and QC35-II a while ago, and did not like the limited connectivity options with the XM3. I don't know about cutting out other people talking in the background though I can't test that at the moment. I have a lot of fans for the summer heat, and if anything I'd say it seems better at killing low frequency noise from the largest ones now. If it has, I'm not sure that it was downgraded. It does seem like the ANC may have changed, but it could be placebo. Perhaps you'll find the same thing with yours, or reinstalling it via the website may help. It's actually 4.5.2.xxxx if you view "system information" on that page.

I don't know if the update didn't install properly, or if they've released a newer update which has the same "4.5.2" version number. Note: you have to enter a d v ↑ ↓ via the keyboard on this page to access advanced mode which allows for firmware selection.Ĭuriously, when I first connected the headphones, it said they were running firmware 4.3.x (I think?) despite updating a week or so ago, and the phone app listing version 4.5.2. I hope this serves as a warning for anyone thinking of shelling $350 on those, do your research and try them before buying. This issue has convinced me to just sell mine and buy the Sony WH-1000XM3, here's hoping Sony don't fuck up their updates as bad as bose, not one to believe on planned obsolescence, but the timing on this is weird, just before they launched the new ANC headphones. I have searched a lot and found a lot of people complaining in their forums but no solution in sight. I thought it was me, but I swear I could not hear most of what was going around me at work when I had the ANC enabled, now I can hear everything and there is almost no difference between the low and high ANC settings, flying also was a bad experience and that moment when taking off I knew the fucked up with that update, as I could hear the engines a lot more. Then few weeks ago a new update popped up and fucked up the ANC.

For a few months now I've had the QC35 II and for most of that time I've had a great experience with them, working at the office I can code in peace as I barely hear anything, except high pitched voices, when flying they absolutely kill the engine noise, they sound great and are VERY comfortable.
